The Zeigvox extension keeps everything on your computer. It has no analytics or tracking, and it never sends what you capture to us or to anyone else. You decide what to give your AI tool, and where. An account on this website is optional, and holds only your name, email, picture and plan.
What Zeigvox is
Zeigvox is a Chrome extension for people building websites and apps with AI. You point at an element of the page you're building, write a short note about what should change, and Zeigvox turns your notes into a precise request you can paste into an AI tool such as a chat assistant or an AI app builder.
When it runs
Zeigvox does nothing on a page until you click its toolbar icon or press its keyboard shortcut on that tab. It then works on that tab only, until the tab reloads or navigates away.
Two optional features run without a click, and only on sites you choose:
- Always on for a site. If you switch this on in the side panel, Chrome asks you to let Zeigvox run on that one site, and Zeigvox then starts automatically there after each reload. Switching it off removes that access.
- AI builder previews. If your app is shown inside a builder's preview frame, Zeigvox asks you to let it run on that builder's preview addresses so you can point at your app inside the preview. You can decline, and you can remove the access at any time in Chrome's extension settings.
What it records, and why
Zeigvox records information only when you add a change, edit your taste list, or change a setting.
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| The note you write for a change | It is the change you are asking for. |
| The page's address and title, and the size of the window | So the request says which page and screen size the change applies to. |
| About the element you point at: its tag, a short text preview, a CSS selector, a short piece of its HTML, its size and position, and key styles such as colours, fonts and spacing | So your AI can find the exact element and see how it looks now. |
| The component name, source file and line, when the page is a development build that exposes them | So your AI can go straight to the right place in your code. |
| A screenshot of the element you point at, cropped to that element | So you and your AI can see what you meant. |
| Your taste list: short entries for things you like and things to avoid | They are added to every request. |
| Settings: which sites are "always on", and the last site you used | To remember your choices. |
Zeigvox does not record your browsing history, keystrokes outside its own note box, form contents, passwords, cookies or personal details, and it does not read pages you have not turned it on for.
Where it is kept
Everything above is saved in Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your computer. It is not synced to other devices. While a tab is open, Zeigvox also keeps a few short-lived notes about that tab, such as whether pointing is on, in Chrome's session storage (chrome.storage.session), which Chrome clears when you close the browser.
What leaves your computer
Nothing the extension records is sent to us or to any third party. The extension has no analytics and no advertising, and we never sell or share data.
- The optional plug-in for AI coding tools. If you install the Zeigvox plug-in (
npx zeigvox) and click Connect, the extension sends your ticked changes and taste list to that plug-in, which runs on your own computer and listens only there (127.0.0.1). It keeps them in a folder on your computer (~/.zeigvox) so your AI tool can read them when you ask. Zeigvox never sends them anywhere else; what your AI tool does with them is covered by its own privacy policy. - Signing in from the extension (optional). If you click Sign in in the side panel, the extension opens this website so you can sign in with Google or GitHub, then keeps a sign-in session for your Zeigvox account on your computer. While you're signed in, it contacts our account service (Supabase) only to keep you signed in and to check your plan. It sends your sign-in session and nothing else. Signing out in the side panel removes the session.
- Your clipboard. When you press "Copy for AI" or "Copy screenshot", Zeigvox puts that text or image on your clipboard. Where you paste it, and what that service does with it, is up to you and that service's own privacy policy.
- Requests to the page's own servers. To find exact line numbers, Zeigvox may ask the server that is already serving the page (usually your own development server) for that page's source map files. To draw a screenshot when Chrome doesn't allow a direct one, it may request images and fonts that the page already uses, from the same places the page loads them from. These requests go only where the page itself already connects, and they carry nothing that Zeigvox recorded.
Your account on this website (optional)
You can use the extension without an account. If you choose to sign in on this website with Google or GitHub:
- What we receive: your name, email address and profile picture from Google or GitHub, and an ID for your account. We never see your password, and we get no access to your repositories, contacts, emails or files.
- What we keep: those details, your plan, and the date you joined. They are stored in our database, which is hosted by Supabase, and Supabase handles the sign-in.
- Staying signed in: your browser keeps a sign-in session in this website's local storage. The website has no advertising or analytics cookies, and no trackers.
- Hosting: the website is hosted by Netlify, which processes standard request information such as IP addresses to deliver the site and keep it secure.
- Payments: paid plans aren't available yet. When they are, payments will be handled by a payment provider, and we will never see or store your card details. This policy will be updated before that happens.
- Deleting your account: email us from the address you signed in with, or use "Delete my account" on your account page, and we'll delete your account and everything it holds.
Your account is separate from what you make with the extension. Signing in, on this website or in the extension, never sends your changes, notes, screenshots or taste list anywhere.
Permissions
| Permission | What it is used for |
|---|---|
| activeTab | Works on the current tab after you click the icon or press the shortcut, including taking the element screenshot. |
| scripting | Adds the pointing overlay to that tab, and reads development details (component, file, line) for the element you choose. |
| storage | Saves your changes, taste list and settings on your computer. |
| sidePanel | Shows your changes, taste list and the "Copy for AI" button next to the page. |
| Access to specific sites (optional) | Only for the sites you allow through "Always on" or a builder preview, as described above, and for 127.0.0.1 when you click Connect to reach the plug-in on your own computer. Never granted at install. |
Keeping and deleting your data
Your data stays on your computer until you delete it. In the side panel you can remove a single change, clear all changes for a site, and remove taste entries. Removing the extension from Chrome deletes everything it stored.
Children
Zeigvox is a tool for building websites and is not directed at children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If Zeigvox ever starts handling data differently, this page will be updated before that version is released, and the date at the top will change. A change that sends data off your computer would also be described in the extension's release notes.
